Move to the Music

So what did you get for Christmas?  Did you get to spend time with your favorite aunt or cousin and did you get to open presents with your family?  I had a GREAT Christmas.  :)  One of the favorite presents our family got was a xbox 360 with the kinect.  We got a game called Just Dance 3.  You get to dance to songs and you get points for how well you can do the actions to the song.  Up to 4 people can dance at one time.  Our family had a blast dancing to the music!  It was a good workout.  And it's suuuuuuuuuuuuper fun.  :)  I got to thinkin'---you don't need the game to get up and dance to music.  Grab your girlfriends and your favorite song and create your own routine.  That's what I call Pinkercise....... :)

Color!

It is almost Christmas! Are you all excited? I am! I know we get alot of food over the holidays that we usually don't eat much of all year. And that is FINE to enjoy yourself over the holidays but while you are indulging I want you to still remember to think P.I.N.K. Healthy, sparkling pink girls. I want you for the rest of this week to think about COLOR. Yes color! Look at all the color around you at Christmas. It is beautiful! Think about Christmas colors - red and green. Have you ever thought about all the healthy foods you can eat that are red and green? I will share some healthy color foods I can think of. Let me know what you can come up with! Look for fun winter activities to Keep you Moving!



Some of you may find it hard to exercise in the winter but there is a lot of winter fitness activities for kids. Get bundled up and go outside. Sled, skate, build a snow fort or even have a snow ball fight! Go sledding! The whole family can enjoy it. The bigger the hill to climb back up the more you get your heart rate up. When we are just having fun we don't stop to think about the physical fitness benefits we are getting. Get outside and play today!

Fuel for your body...

Have you ever been with a parent and they had to stop and get gas for their car?  That is what food is like for our body.  We need fuel for our body to keep going and not come to a screeching hault in the middle of the day.  So here are some ideas for tasty snacks that will keep you going and going and going.....

My fav sweet treat recipe:

1 banana
1 cup frozen cherries

put both in food processor and blend well.  It tastes like creamy ice cream!  Yumm-o!

Other ideas are:

Apple and almond butter sandwiches with raisins



Make your own frozen fruit bars:
Grab your fav fruit and mix with a spoonful or 2 of yogurt with a bit of honey


How bout a handful of nuts??

Try this Yummy drink!

Spiced Pumpkin Chai
Nourishing and seasonal foods like pumpkin and nutmeg soothe the nervous system and help us stay warm. The yummy beverage also has a ton of beta-carotene. The nutrient is what makes pumpkins and carrots orange. Beta-carotene encourages healing, rejuvenation and regeneration of tissue in our bodies. It also purifies the blood and soothes the eyes. The spiced added to the drink light up the heaviness the pumpkin brings to the table and stimulates circulation. Enjoy this holiday treat!

1/2 c pumpkin canned or fresh
1 1/4 c almond milk - add more or less for desired thickness
1/8 t nutmeg
1/4 t ginger dried
1/8 t ground cloves
1/4 t cinnamon
2 T of honey -add more or less for desired taste
1 1/16 t salt

1. If you're using fresh pumpkin, bake the pumpkin at 350 degrees for one hour. Chop. Mix the pumpkin with the rest of the ingredients in a blender. Puree. Pour mixture into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir frequently, and serve it warm.
2. If you are using canned pumpkin, combine all ingredients into a saucepan and bring to a boil. Stir frequently, and serve it warm.

Say out loud what you want...

Hi girls...do you ever say this to yourself: I wish that I....could run faster, was smarter in school, had better friendships.  I know that I have said those things to myself before at some point in my life.  If it is something you really want and is a healthy goal or idea-like say having better friendships, then create a sentence or statement with the idea.   Form it in the present tense (I have), what you desire (better friendships), add descriptive words to explain the idea (super kind and really funny friends who bring out my inner awesomeness)  So now your thought will go like this:

I have super kind and really funny friends that bring out my inner awesomeness!!!

That is called creating an affirmation.....see it wasn't that hard at all.  :) You can create affirmations about anything.  Just follow the format...then to top it off--say it out LOUD.  It makes the affirmation more real!

Try it and put your favorite affirmation in your go to guide and write it on your mirror in your room.  That way you will always see it and you can read it outloud!   xoxo

Change Is Good



I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I can't believe we are moving into Christmas and the New Year already! I want you to remember change is good even if it feels difficult and uncomfortable sometimes. Change helps us to grow, to reach goals, and to become the person

we are supposed to be. For the next week I am giving you fun homework! I want you to create a vision board, on a new poster board, in a new book or in your go-to-guide. Do a vision board on health, do one on how you want your room to look, or do one on what you want to be when you grow up. You choose. Just create. Your vision and goals grow and change all the time. This is a good thing! Find pictures or draw pictures. Write words or find them in a magazine. Let us see a picture of the changes you would like to see in your life. Have fun creating change!

Gonna get moving TODAY!!!

Hi Pink girls.....hope your week is going well.   Mine is, but I have been very busy and didn't make time for my workout the last couple days.  I'm not gonna beat myself up about it--I'm just gonna start again today!!!  I think that I'm gonna do the ladder workout.  5 squats, 5 sit ups, 5 jumping jacks, 5 running mans and 5 lunges.  Then I'll do 4 squats, 4 sit ups, ......3 squats, 3 sit ups and so on.... all the way to 1.  You get it?  You should try it with me today.  I think I am going to finish my workout with a mile or 2 run and then stretch it out!  Let me know if you did it with me!

3.  This new recipe I made with broiled tilapia with sauted onions, mushrooms, squash and tomatoes on the top---it was DELISH  :)

Eating More Veggies

Here is a great way to get you and your kids to eat more vegetables... HIDE THEM!! No kidding. Researchers served familiar foods to 39 children aged 3-6 but with a catch: they modified the recipes. The foods - zucchini bread, pasta with tomato-based sauce and chicken noodle casserole - enhanced with broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, tomatoes and squash. The vegetable substitutions lowered the calorie count of the foods. The kids rated "Yummy", "OK" or "Yucky" and 70% of them said "ok" or "yummy." I bet if they were given a side of steamed zucchini instead the vote would have been "YUCK." Mommies keep adding in those healthy foods.

Hi pink girls!!! The last couple days I got to wake up to one of my favorite things in the world!!! The ocean.....

What do you see when you wake up? Maybe it's not the ocean, but if you love the ocean like me, it could be a picture of the ocean??? Pick out a couple things you love,maybe a picture of you with your friends or family and have it out where you will see it in the morning!! It's always great to wake up to something that puts a smile on your face, right?? Starting you day out with positive thoughts and images in your brain makes for a super fab day,dont ya think? Hi pink girls. Today we tried something new today-paddle boarding!! It was sooooo much fun. At first it was a little scary trying to stand on the board, but we were determined to stand on that board!! We did it! Hey PINK Girl...today we are gonna stay away from that tv, computer, video game system--whatever you look at that keeps you from moving....Today is one of those amazing fall days.  The sun is shining, the leaves are falling-there aren't gonna be many more days like this one!  So, grab a jacket and go for a walk or a bike ride or grab a camera and snap some photos of the things that make you smile.  Maybe it's a cool jack-o-lantern or a color on a tree that is so beautiful!  Whatever you do today, choose to keep the screens off!

Making one little decision towards being healthy is motivating and builds momentum towards other goals. TRY it....

Today...we are gonna try a new fruit!  Some of my favorite fruits are kiwi, pineapple, raspberries, watermelon, strawberries, and red grapes.  Have you tried all of those fruits?  Some unique fruits might be mangos, papayas, plantains, and starfruit.  Go to the store and see if you can find any of those and try one.....it might just become one of your favorite fruits.  Imagine if you never tried anything new...that would be kinda boring, huh?!?  So today's motto is:  TRY IT, you might just LIKE IT.  :)  seee you tomorrow!

p.s.  So I delivered a special coffee drink to my friend who lives out of town.  IT was fun to catch up and have some girl time.  I wanted you pink girls to know that I did my special gratitude project.  I will try to post a picture when possible.  :)

Thankful. Grateful. Remember

Hi Pink girls.  I am sure that you know that today is the anniversary of 9/11.  Some of you were babies, some not even born yet, when this tragedy happened.  It was a very sad day and we are a different country because of that day.  As I thought about what to post today, I thought it would be a good time to think about what I was thankful and grateful for and to remember all of those things.  So here is my list today:

1.  A Free Country
2.  Choices 
3.  A voice that can be heard (did you know that in some countries, girls can't even be heard?)
4.  People who I can trust
5.  People who protect me and my family EVERY DAY

So now that I have made my list, I am going to show my gratitude for them by doing something special for someone on my list.  Check back tomorrow and I'll tell you what I did.  See you then  :)

What is your Wednesday Workout?

Hi P.I.N.K Girls!
I am writing this post today to remind you to make your workouts a priority. I have to put it in my planner or I get to busy and don't do it! Remember it doesn't matter how long you do it or what you do JUST MOVE YOUR BODY! Do a little bit each day and before you know it you will be on your way to a healthy life.

My workouts this week look like this:
Monday - Walked and pushed Jaylen in the stroller.
Tuesday - Yoga. I practiced a headstand! It was not that fun with a head cold! I also worked
on my P.I.N.K. go-to-guide.
Wednesday - Weight training class.
Thursday - Run.
Friday - Jump rope and Weight training class.

You have to make your workouts and your P.I.N.K. calendar your top priority. It is easy to get busy and forget to take care of you. After I work out I feel energized, balanced and ready to face the world.

New Yoga Pose for PINK girls

Hi Pink Girl.  :)  Are you ready to try the new yoga pose of the day?  It's a fun one!  Here you go:. Candle:

This is a Shoulder Stand in adult yoga, and is a great, safe way for you to go upside-down.



How To: Lying on your back, bring your hands to the small of your back and push your legs up into the air.  Try moving your feet like a flickering candle flame. For variation, move your legs into tree position for “Upside Down Tree.”

Hi My Super Pinkalicious Girls  :)  Today we get to choose an activity from the nutrition bubble!  Don't you love having choices to be healthy?  I sure do.  Today one of the options are eating a clean meal.  I know that last month we talked about what that is, right!  (remember, no bags bottles, or boxes)  Eat fruits, veggies, lean meats and drink oodles of water! Sometimes it is a challenge to know what to fix, isn't it!  We hear a lot of pink girls and Moms, and dads say that having some ideas and recipes would be awesome!  So you know what?  We decided to create a healthy, pure-eating cookbook to give everybody ideas and options on how to eat pure and clean.  Isn't that exciting!!!  (we think so!)  So look for the e-cookbook coming out around October 1st--Our next P.I.N.K. Jumpin Fun!

Hi PINK GiRl!!!  Today you had to challenge a parent to a jump rope competition.  Did you do it?  I bet you jumped like a champ!  Jumping rope is a great way to get off the couch and move.  I love jumping rope outside and inside!  (Ask your parents if it's okay before you try it!)  I Like trying to do double jumps too....CAN YOU??  ttyl  :)

Try this!

Sweet potato Fries

You need 1 sweet potato.
Slice the potato into thin strips and place on baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil
and a dash of sea salt and pepper to taste. Bake at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes
until golden brown. A healthy and yummy alternative to french fries!

A sweet potato is high in vitamin c supplying nearly half the daily requirements in one serving. Best of all, they are rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates, a combination that will regulate blood sugar levels and satisfy your appetite.

Move Today!

Try this fun workout today! Take 10 jumps forward. Do 5 pushups. 5 sit ups. Run around your house once and repeat. Keep moving! The idea is to work your heart. Try and repeat this 3-4 times. Let us know how it goes!

Brainy Breakfast

Some foods help the brain function better and some foods drag down brain performance. Be smart and eat foods that will make you smart. Try these smart foods before school!

Zucchini Pancakes with fruit and almond milk

2 cups shredded zucchini
2 eggs
4 tbsp. whole wheat flour
1 tsp. baking powder
dash of sea salt
2 tbsp. sunflower or sesame seeds

Stir ingredients together until mixed. Pour the batter onto a preheated griddle. Before flipping the pancake, sprinkle on the sunflower or sesame seeds. Top with fresh fruit and enjoy with a glass of almond milk.

If you are following your go-to-guide we are on Gratitude and deep breathing. Let's talk about being grateful for a minute. Gratitude is being thankful for all that you have in your life. It is about looking outside yourself and seeing what your teachers, parents or friends do for you. We are not born grateful we have to practice this.
Grateful people are more positive and fun to be around. Grateful people have great attitudes and are happy. Grateful people find the good in every situation. What are you grateful for today girls?

New. NEw. NEW.

I love trying new things!  I think it's so fun because I don't want to miss out on anything that might be totally cool, fun and different!  I've tried ziplining, mountain climbing, I've ate shark and have traveled to Russia.  Those were all new experiences for me!  One of my most favorite things to do is to try new foods and recipes!  So here is a new one for you to try:

A P.I.N.K. Smoothie

2 c. strawberries

1 c. chopped watermelon

the juice of 1 lemon

the juice of 2 oranges

Put all these yummy ingredients into a blender and mix them right up!  Get out a glass for you and a friend, and pour your super pink smoothie into the glasses!!  ENJOY PINK GIRL!!

So today is a great day to get moving with your family!  You get to choose from the movement bubble at the bottom of your go to guide!  Maybe you can do jumping jacks to your favorite song or get everyone off the couch and do them together?  What's your favorite song right now?  A couple of mine are by Katy Perry and Chris Tomlinson.  What are your parents favorite songs right now?  Ask them, and maybe do jumping jacks to their favorite song too!  TTYL  :)

Starting FRESH

Hi PINK girls!  Can you believe that school is almost ready to start?  I had a great summer!  Did you?  I love this time of year because it reminds me of all the new things that are happening...a new school year, a new season is coming...What a great time to start something new or try something again that maybe you quit doing, but loved!  Maybe it's doing an outdoor activity, drawing, singing, whatever it is...RIGHT NOW is a great time to start doing it again!!  So maybe you started out great doing the activities on your pink-style planner, but you got busy and quit doing them.  RIGHT NOW is a perfect time to start doing the activities again.  We are starting over on the planner, today!  If you have been one of those PINK girls that has been doing the planner, high-five to YOU!  Let's see how much progress you have made from last month!  Ready to get started???  I AM!

Following the calendar it says to pick today from the nutrition category! I picked make a healthy snack. I made a dip for my apples and strawberries. I mixed together a spoonful of almond butter (a great and healthy alternative to peanut butter) and a spoonful of Greek plain yogurt in a bowl and dipped! Easy, and all ingredients are at walmart. LOVE IT!

Try this exercise today! It is called a high plank! Can you hold it for one minute? Make sure your buns are down and your shoulders are right over your wrists. Feet are close together and make sure to breath! This exercise is great for your stomach and your arms. Have fun and make your mom do it with you!

h2ooooooooooh how I love you!!

Water, agua, h2o, whatever you call it...we all need it!  And LOTS of it!  Some of my favorite ways to drink water are with a lemon slice or cucumber slice in a glass with lots of ice so its really cold!  I also like to drink my water with a straw...I don't know why, but I do!  How do you like your water?  In a cup or a bottle, with a little flavor from juice or straight out of the faucet with nothing added?  How much water are YOU gonna drink today?  This post is making me thirsty, I'm gonna go have a glass right now!  Talk to you tomorrow! :)

Hi P.I.N.K. girl!!  How was your challenge yesterday?  I hope you put your results in your go to guide!!  Today is a you choose day under the nutrition know-how bubble.  One of the options is to "eat clean".  So how do you do that?  Just follow this one p.i.n.k. girl rule:  don't eat anything that comes from a bag, bottle, or box!  So what does that mean you can eat?  Anything that didn't come from a bag, box, or bottle--like any fruit, vegetable, lean meat, water...try it, you just might like eating this way more often, and your p.i.n.k. girl body will thank you!
